The story of the Aero-Tray
I am Norman Korpi, an artist and writer living in Los Angeles, my work and interests in life keep me mobile and often on many planes and trains. I love to travel and my subject matter is mostly landscapes.
About 4 years ago I was traveling and I couldn’t use my laptop when the person in front of me reclined their seat. I sat there for the 4-hour flight thinking there was a lot of strain on my hand while holding a book or my iPhone to watch a film. My idea was born. I tested several mock-ups and then started making drawings and filling for a patent. I made upgrades on the design and as travelled, people took notice and I added more features as I went along. I began to call it the Aero-Tray. Although this can’t do everything for everybody, this handy workstation platform can do a lot.
I have been supporting this journey over the last several years with the sale of my artwork. The Aero-Tray has been in development over the last 4 years. I filed for a utility patent back in 2009 and in last April 2013 I was granted the US PATENT.
I was fortunate enough to meet LifeGear Design in March of this year who immediately took interest in my invention and assisted me in taking the product into development and bridge the gap in production and manufacturing. With little to no funding, I decided to launch a Kickstarter campaign at the very end of September, with the hopes of raising enough money to be able to complete a mold I needed to get our Aero-Tray produced in the most economical way. We launched the campaign on September 29, 2013 and it ran until November 1, 2013. Our goal was to raise $23, 667.00. We ended up raising a total of $38, 972.00 and our project was successfully funded at 165% with 441 backers.
TravelSmith, the leading shopping website & catalogue for all things travel took interest in my invention and we are now going to be able to have Aero-Tray for sale quicker than we had expected. Beginning November 14, 2013, Aero-Tray will be for sale on www.TravelSmith.com. We also have signed on with Di Moda Public Relations who will be launching our PR campaign in November as well. And the story of Aero-Tray continues.
